Question

How can I return my checked-out items to the library if I am not near Whitewater or Janesville?

You have a few options to return your library items (books, multimedia such as DVDs, CDs, games, etc.) to us:

If you are close to any other UW system campuses, you can return your items to any of those campus libraries (Google to find their campus library websites and check what their return system is -- most should have an external, secure book drop somewhere on the outside of the library building) and they will return the books to our library via a courier van.

If you are out of state or not close to any of those campuses, then your best option is sending it to us through the US postal service. If you ship the items, we recommend that you:

  • Put a tracking number on it,

  • Make sure the package has enough insurance (lost items are generally charged $100 per item but most shipping has basic $50 insurance coverage)

  • If the items get lost in shipping, you are responsible for the replacement costs.

The library address for our Whitewater campus is Andersen Library, 750 W. Main Street, Whitewater, WI 53190. The library address for our Janesville campus is Lenox Library, 2909 Kellogg Avenue, Janesville, WI 53546.

Important note: the above applies to non-technology items only. If you have any technology to return, we don't recommend sending that through the mail or putting it in a book drop, due to the risk of damage. You would be responsible for any damages in that case. If you have technology, you should return it IN PERSON.
